What a WhatsApp AI agent really costs in Colombia (2026)

The four components of the cost of a WhatsApp AI agent: platform, artificial intelligence, messages and setup

Key takeaways

  • An AI agent on WhatsApp has up to four cost components: the platform (monthly fee), AI usage, Meta's messages (only with the official API) and the implementation, paid once.
  • Charging per message is misleading because a single question often arrives as five messages; IANALITICS measures by conversation.
  • Before signing, ask about prompt caching, the AI model, who owns the data, lock-in periods, what happens if you leave and whether you can take over a chat.
  • IANALITICS has two plans, Starter and Pro, in Colombian pesos, with no lock-in and no Meta per-message cost. Current prices are on the pricing page.

Asking for three quotes for an AI chatbot in Colombia and getting three numbers that look nothing alike is completely normal. It is not that someone is lying: it is that each one is charging for different things and nobody itemises.

This article is that itemisation.

What makes up the bill

No matter who sells it to you, a WhatsApp AI agent has at most four cost components:

  1. The platform. The server the agent runs on, the dashboard you control it from, conversation storage and support. This is the monthly fee.
  2. The artificial intelligence. Every reply carries a small cost that depends on the model and, above all, on how the agent is built. This is where the big differences hide, and we cover it separately in this article on prompt caching.
  3. Meta's messages. Only if the provider uses the official WhatsApp API. Since July 2025, Meta charges for each template message delivered, at a rate that depends on the country and the message type (marketing, utility or authentication); replying within 24 hours of a customer's message is free. With a WhatsApp Web-style connection this component does not exist.
  4. The setup. Loading your catalogue, writing the script, defining the tone, configuring the safety rules. It is a one-off payment at the start.

When you compare proposals, ask for all four lines separately. A low monthly fee with a hidden per-message charge turns into the most expensive option exactly when the business starts working, which is the worst possible moment for a surprise.

Ranges in the Colombian market

With 2026 public pricing, these are the reference points you will find:

Why charging per message is misleading

Think about how people actually write on WhatsApp. A prospect sends "hi", then "good afternoon", then "I wanted to ask about the apartment", then "the one in the photo", then "is it still available?". That is five messages and one single question.

If you are charged per message, you have just paid five times for a conversation that has barely started. And there is nothing you can do about it, because you do not control how your customers type.

That is why we measure by conversation: the full exchange with one person, however many messages it takes. If someone writes twenty times and the agent replies fifteen, that is one conversation. It is the unit that actually reflects the work done, and the one you can budget for sensibly.

Six questions before you sign

Whoever you end up with, these questions will save you grief:

And a seventh that is worth all the others: is this the official WhatsApp API or a WhatsApp Web-style connection? There is no wrong answer, only an honest one. We explain it in this article.

What we charge

Two plans, in Colombian pesos, with no lock-in:

There is no Meta per-message cost, because we do not use the official API. The initial setup is a one-off payment of $400,000 COP, and if you pay the subscription a year in advance you get a 20% discount against paying twelve separate months. The first month is a measurement period: we review your real volume and adjust the plan if needed, up or down.

You can simulate your cost on the pricing page and download the quote as a PDF. Or, better still, message us on WhatsApp and talk to our own agent before deciding anything: it is the one demonstration that cannot be dressed up.
